Who Is Tamarack Cannabis?
Tamarack Cannabis is a woman-owned Montana cannabis company based in the Flathead Valley. The Montana Department of Revenue lists Tamarack Cannabis LLC as a licensed cultivator. Its grows are in Kalispell and in Kila, just west of town.
The name fits. In northwest Montana, the western larch is often called tamarack. It is the conifer that turns gold and drops its needles every fall.
From 50 Patients to a Statewide Brand
Tamarack opened in 2009 as a medical marijuana provider. According to the Flathead Beacon, its first location was a single room serving about 50 patients.
That was early in Montana cannabis history. Since then, the state has rewritten its cannabis laws several times. Medical access was nearly repealed in 2011. Recreational sales began in 2022. Tamarack has operated through all of it.
After recreational sales started, Tamarack expanded. It now runs two stores, several grow operations and a wholesale program. The Flathead Beacon reported in 2024 that Tamarack supplies 11 other Montana dispensaries. Infinity Wellness is how that Flathead Valley product reaches the Electric City.
How Tamarack Grows
Tamarack describes itself as a seed-to-sale company. That means one team handles the plant from the start to the finished package. According to the company:
- Plants are grown organically.
- Every plant is handled by staff every day.
- Small batches are the norm for flower, concentrates and edibles.
- Extraction happens in-house in a C1D1-certified lab. C1D1 is a safety classification for rooms that handle flammable solvents.
